Our Story
Here’s how we went from a hands‐on farming hobby to becoming The Harvest Optimization Company: a journey of ingenuity, partnership, and innovation.
Bushel Plus was founded by Marcel Kringe to add a name to the hobby that was helping farmers set combines, working with key partners on teaching combine efficiency and starting to create the patented invention of the of the “Bushel Plus System” now called the SmartPan System.
Marcel leaves his day job at Cargill to pursue Bushel Plus full time. At that time his goal was to sell 120 pieces of equipment; sales exceeded that goal by many more.
Marcel and a small team of 3 begin to expand operations globally, building key partnerships in Australia and Germany.
Bushel Plus pens an agreement with European company, Gode, to be the exclusive North American distributor of the MiniCombine, which enabled fast and cost-effective moisture sample collection during harvest. Bushel Plus was pleased to bring this innovative technology to the market for farmers to further optimize their harvest.
Bushel Plus receives a signification investment from Forage Capital, enabling them to expand operations. This included:
⮞ The acquisition of fellow Prairie company, MAD Concaves, founded by Hamiota-based farmers and CNH Product Specialists (Murray Skayman, Alan Armstrong, and Dallas Skayman) for their semi-retirement. This enabled Bushel Plus to continue their harvest product line expansion by adding precision concaves with a unique split frame design and modular inserts to make changing concaves between crops easy. ⮞ The continuation of the Germany-based harvest training company, Agrar-Training. Founded by Klaus Semmler, Agrar-Training has offered specific training programs for over 25 years in Europe and Globally. Focused on harvest optimization for farmers and agriculture professionals. Bushel Plus along with their German distributor, Geiger Agri-Solutions are continuing operations, offering training across Europe, while also transferring the format to North America as THE Harvest Academy. ⮞ Expanding the Bushel Plus team to enable rapid global growth, including a focus on significant growth in the US market.
Bushel Plus announced a rebrand and shift to “The Harvest Optimization Company”. From tools and technology to educational training, this farmer success-focused movement acknowledged a broadened focus in their product and service offerings to include all aspects of maximizing harvest productivity and profits.
In April 2023, BranValt additionally announced the official launch of The Harvest Academy, offer hands-on and in-depth third-party harvest optimization training – the first of it’s kind in North America. Learn more.

MEET MARCEL KRINGE
DRIVEN BY PASSION AND INNOVATION
Marcel Kringe is the Founder and CEO of BranValt Ltd. Driven by a passion for innovation, he started the company in 2016 with a mission to design advanced agricultural solutions that help farmers reduce grain loss at harvest to maximize profits. Today, BranValt precision-based tools and technology empower farmers worldwide to capture more profits while saving time, fuel, and equipment wear.
FROM FARM BOY TO SERIAL-ENTREPRENEUR
Marcel grew up on a multi-generational family farm in Germany, where four generations lived and worked side by side. This upbringing instilled in him a strong work ethic and a natural ability to solve problems. He pursued a degree in agricultural engineering and agronomy, combining academic study with practical, hands-on internships. His journey soon became global, beginning with a 2009 internship on a 3,000-acre farm in Canada. “I thought, this is it. I have seen it all,” he recalled - until he discovered something even bigger.
A new job opportunity led him to Russia to work on growing a 80,000-acre farm where he expanded his knowledge base even more. Marcel spent two summers in Russia, another fall in Canada, and three weeks in Brazil – all while completing his studies and fulfilling his love for farming and exploration.
After settling in Canada, he immersed himself in the industry, learning English through a two-way radio while driving a combine and forage harvester during harvest seasons.
During his time working on farms, he witnessed the unsafe and imprecise methods farmers used to measure grain loss during harvest. Recognizing the need for a safer, more accurate solution, the SmartPan System™, was born. The first complete remote drop pan unit of its kind. Now used by farmers globally in 35 countries, the SmartPan provides precise grain loss readings, helping maximize yield and profitability by keeping more grain in the bin rather than lost in the field.
OVERCOMING HURDLES AND LIFE CHALLENGES
Marcel’s journey is not just one of innovation and entrepreneurship, it is also a testament to extraordinary resilience and determination. Shortly after leaving his full-time job to pursue his vision with BranValt, Marcel survived a devastating car accident in Australia that left him with 12 spinal fractures and multiple other injuries. Despite facing an uphill battle to regain mobility, he continued leading the company from his hospital bed, demonstrating unwavering commitment to his mission. Over the next eight months of recovery in Australia, Marcel adapted to working remotely, guiding his team, making strategic decisions, and ensuring BranValt continued to grow.

From arriving in Canada with just a bag of clothes to leading a globally recognized agricultural company, Marcel’s journey is a testament to perseverance, innovation, and leadership. What began as a basement hobby has grown into BranValt, a company exporting products to 35 countries and employing over 30 people across three nations. His commitment to innovation goes beyond product development. He is driven by a mission to reduce global harvest loss and enhance food production efficiency.
